Iron's symbol is Fe. Iron has 26 protons and atomic mass of of 55.84. It is part of the transition metal. This metal is solid in room temperature, but has a melting point at 2800°F and a boiling point of 5182°F.
Iron is one of the most common metal found in Earth because most of the outer and inner Earth's core is made up of iron. In addition, iron is the 6th most abundant element found in the universe.
Iron is found everywhere including the foods that people eat. Red meat, lentils, beans, poultry, fish, leaf vegetables, watercress, tofu, black-eyed peas, fortified bread, and fortified breakfast cereals have a rich sources of dietary iron. However, there are some health concerns, though studies have not proven yet, that eating too much iron rich food might result of leading of cancer.
Iron in the past were used to make weapons, tools, and other decorative items from past civilization such as Greeks and Romans. The purist form iron is softer than aluminum, however it is impossible to obtain pure iron from smelting. Though iron can get harder by the process through smelting, it is by adding impurities into the process particularly carbon.
