The air quality in Pocatello G & G, Idaho is 129 AQI which is classified as Unhealthy for sensitive group. In this category, members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The city Pocatello, Idaho is the fifth largest city in the state. Pocatello has a total area of 32.38 square miles, of which, 32.22 square miles (83.45 km2) is land and 0.16 miles is water. According to the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, there has been a strong inversion layers during winter months. The biggest pollutant of this inversion was ammonium sulfate, which when expose to the high humidity of the winter inversions from the grass, ammonium and sulfur dioxide. Some think that the problem was started by an major company called J.R. Simplot Company. There was the case that Simplot did notify the County of the 80,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide that the company had released in 2002. Eventually Simplot agreed to pay the pentanes of their actions. Even after the 12 years had passed there are still problems that affect Poctaello, Idaho because of the masses release of sulfur dioxide.
