Hoover Dam






The Hoover Dam was built in Black Canyon in the Colorado River in 1936. The location is located borderline with Arizona and Nevada. In addition, the dam was built in the Great Depression, which thousands of workers were used and hundreds of workers that were killed in the process. The purpose of the Hoover Dam was to control the floods, provide irrigation water, and produce hydroelectric power. However, the effects of constructing the dam cause a decline of estuary ecosystem. In addition, there are four species of fish that are native to the Colorado River are now listed as endangered.

  • Bony-tail Chub  
  • Colorado Pikeminnow
  • Humback Chub
  • Razorback Sucker
